My Story

Hi, my name’s Alex! Or that’s my mundane name, at least. In the magickal world, I’m known as Lilac Starfire. Please feel free to refer to me by either name!

As you may have already surmised from my website, I’m an initiated witch, Pagan priest, and spiritual mentor. I’m originally from Buffalo, NY, and I currently live in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

My journey to the Craft, like many others in the Pagan community, began when I was a child. For as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by fairy tales, myths, and absolutely any mention of magick!

Growing up, my classmates used to call me unicorn boy, and they weren’t very far off the mark. I would have much rather spent my days trying to catch a glimpse of unicorns in the woods than being taunted by Catholic schoolboys!

Influenced by the books and films I grew up with as a child, I developed my first ideas about witchcraft and spirituality. I collected crystals, read tea leaves, and spoke to the spirits of plants, animals, and trees, convinced of their sanctity and intelligence.

In September of 2008, I discovered Wicca when I spontaneously pulled a book in Cate Tiernan’s Sweep series off the shelves of my high school library. Days later, fascinated by what I was reading, I searched the library catalog for non-fiction books on Wicca and came up with a copy of Gwinivere Rain’s Confessions of a Teenage Witch

As I devoured the first chapters and dove headfirst into the exercises, I experienced a powerful sense of coming home. Here was the spirituality I had been looking for my whole life — I simply hadn’t known it existed! And so it was, at the tender age of 13, that I cast my very first circle and started a conversation with the Gods that has continued to the present day.

For most of my teenage years, I practiced as a solitary witch, before being invited to join a local chapter of the Black Forest Clan of Wicca (founded by the popular Wiccan author, Silver Ravenwolf). After my dedication, I went on to receive my first and second-degree initiations in the Black Forest Clan and earned the title of high priest.

During my years in Black Forest, I took on my first priestly responsibilities, which included everything from writing, facilitating, and participating in group rituals to teaching classes, performing Tarot readings, and strengthening my spiritual mediumship. I discovered, at this time, how much I enjoyed my work as a priest, and serving the Pagan community.

Another important part of my spiritual journey took place at the Findhorn Foundation in Scotland. Drawn to the community by the mystic Dorothy Maclean’s book To Hear The Angels Sing, I spent five months at beautiful Cluny Hill focusing on the Foundation’s three guiding principles: inner listening, co-creation with nature, and work is love in action. I also had the opportunity to hold group meditations, attunements, and even a night of Pagan chanting in Cluny Sanctuary.

Here I am in the Findhorn Dunelands, on the coast of the Moray Firth.

As I continued my studies in the Black Forest Clan and prepared for my third and final degree, the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the globe. During this time I experienced a profound period of soul-searching and made the difficult decision to leave Wicca in search of a queerer, less binary tradition of witchcraft.

After evaluating my options, I set my heart on pursuing training in the Feri Tradition of Witchcraft with the author, teacher, and warlock Storm Faerywolf. As a prerequisite, I completed a 13-month course of study in the Black Rose School of Witchcraft; my first experience studying witchcraft online.

Just before finishing the course, I had the opportunity to participate in the Aquarian Tabernacle’s Spring Mysteries — a modern-day recreation of the Eleusinian Mysteries. As a lifelong devotee of Greek mythology, this was an extremely powerful experience for me and marked a period of rebirth in my life.

After receiving my Black Rose initiation, and becoming a mentor within the school, I commenced my studies in the BlueRose lineage of the Feri Tradition with Storm Faerywolf. I am still an active BlueRose student to this day, and my daily practice as a witch is Feri-based.

As a priest of the Craft, regardless of my tradition, I feel it is my sacred responsibility to incarnate deity in this world. This includes serving witches and Pagans of all denominations on their journeys of self-transformation and realization.

While enthralling and rewarding, a witch’s path can also be frustrating, lonely, and challenging. Our work, after all, is essentially one of transformation, and if life has taught me anything, it’s that change is often uncomfortable.

Through blogging, pastoral care, spiritual mentoring, and divination I assist magickal folks around the globe. Whether it’s a one-time call or ongoing support, I’m here for those who need company on their spiritual paths.

My fundamental purpose is to remind you of your own God nature and help you connect with the divinity within you and all around you. It’s a life-long effort, but the rewards are extraordinary – in cultivating our Godhood, we change ourselves and our world forever.
